Math for Excellence: A Louisian's Way on Top

The annual Metrobank-DepEd-MTAP Match Challenge, sponsored by the Metrobank Group, Department of Education, and the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines in search of talented young mathematicians from all over the country, was held in the first quarter of 2012.

St. Louis College Valenzuela (SLCV) took charge of the Elimination Round for Valenzuela City on January 15. As a result of their hard work, representatives from the First, Second, and Third Year levels placed first in the Elimination Round while the Fourth Year level ranked second. The Grade School ranked first in all levels.

SLCV was chosen once again to be the division host of the said prestigious competition which was joined by schools from the areas of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela and Quezon City North last February 11. The Louisian team was able to produce good results from their training. The SLCV team from the First Year, Third Year and Fourth Year bagged fourth place, while the Second Year students ranked third. In the Grade School Department, Grade III and Grade V got first place, Grade I was third, Grade VI was fifth and Grade II was sixth.

SLCV representatives from the Second Year, Grade 3 and Grade 5 qualified for the Sectoral Finals for the National Capital Region. Our Grade 3 pupils got 5th place, Grade 5 got 18th place and Second Year students were ranked 8th. SLCV Grade School's Kendrick Angelo Thomas S. Santos and Dana Isabelle P. Villano were able to reach the individual finals at the sectoral level of the competition.

The impressive show made by the SLCV student representatives in the competition not only has made the entire Louisian community proud, but also underscored the school's commitment to quality education.
